Saint Conan’s Kirk in fashion photo shoot
The Buck & Hare brand is owned by Emma McPherson, www.buckandhare.com, a new venture for her long standing involvement in fashion design and manufacture. The brand is focusing on bringing a new sharp range of mens and womens wear in select tweeds that incorporate traditional tailoring with a modern twist providing classic garments that have new form and function. The old with the new element of Buck & Hare brand sat well with St Conans Kirk, as its a ‘relatively new’ interpretation of eclectic, ecclesiastical architecture and within it has so many hidden gems much like Emma’s garments in this new range of clothing.
“We wanted to use a space that was visually impressive that would compliment the simplicity of the materials and the overall look put together by Emma, the detailed stonework in the kirk was perfect” said Ian Docherty of Aesthetica Photography. “The chancel space was the perfect opportunity to put together the multiplicity image that will be a key piece in the promotional content that Emma wishes to put together, the overall space also lends itself perfectly to work with the look of the model, Danny Scrimshaw from the 10:04s (the upcoming band that played at the New Years stage on Edinburgh Princes Street this year ) It helped us create a bit of ‘Steampunk’ look to the images, another old meets new concept”.
“We were also keen to give something back to the kirk, we were aware of the appeal for funding and we felt it was much better to donate to the kirk than to spend the money in a studio in Glasgow or Edinburgh and try to recreate the space. This is part of our wider view from both Buck & Hare and Aesthetica Photography ( recently rebranded this week as ‘Revolver’ ), we like to build relationships with all of those that we work with and maintain a long term working relationship”.
So in a nutshell, the space was perfect for the look both Buck and Hare and Aesthetica wanted to achieve, short of recreating a set from 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea and travelling back in time to get James Mason! We are delighted to hear that Emma is keen to use the space again to photograph the womens range as well as it provides a bit of continuity and most importantly everyone wanted to get involved and do a little for the preservation of the kirk.
